(left to right): Iced Latte, Malt Shake, Watermelon, Juiced Berry, Angel

I recently bought my first order of E.L.F cosmetics online. I had seen a lot of reviews on their products from other Youtube users. There were some bad reviews along with some good. From what I saw, it was fifty-fifty, so I decided to take the plunge and try some out for myself!

e.l.f. Essential Super Glossy Lip Shine

The Short and Sweet:

  • Super affordable only $1
  • SPF 15
  • High shine gloss with tint of colour (depending on the shade)
  • Hit and miss on different scents
  • cruelty-free

As far as my favorites out of what I bought I would have to say I really like Iced Latte and Watermelon. I also like Malt Shake and last would be Angel (because it’s basically a clear gloss- it does have a nice glitter, that doesn’t irritate my lips). My least favourite was Juiced Berry, mainly because of the scent… it smelled like “kid-makeup”  (Juiced Berry really smelled like Juiced crayons. Yuck!) and as far as the gloss itself… it was very plain.

I think they are supposed to be scented differently, but I noted very little difference with the scents. Iced Latte and Watermelon smelled fine-  both seemed to smell more like what they’re titled. I didn’t really notice much with the Angel or Malt Shake. Overall they smell slightly sweet almost flowery, but in an artificial way. It’s not horrible, but it’s definitely not as flavourful or true-to-scent as Bonnebell lip products. I could think of worse and better as far as the scent factor goes. There is a slight sweet taste if you lick your lips, but nothing really delicious or crazy. Having said that, I know that there are those out there who will really hate these based on the scent. Conclusion:

The things I really liked was that the pigmentation was pretty good for the more opaque colors. The texture is thick and a little heavy, but they’re not really sticky. I tried all of them, and the more pigmented colors seemed to stay on my lips a lot longer.  I also really like the fact that they have SPF 15! We forget often that our lips are also sensitive to UV rays 🙂

In all honesty, I think that for $1.00 US each, they are a great buy. I am happy with most of the colors I chose and think they will last a good while since each are .35 oz/ 10 g.

***Update, since this blog post I’ve also tried “Goddess” Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15, and I really like the color. It’s sort of like a coral-peach-pink color. The smell factor isn’t great, but not as bad as Juiced Berry.

This is watermelon, my fave
